Wallabies winger wins clash of the codes sprint race

The Wallabies winger Lachie Turner capped off an incredible couple of weeks by winning the Bolt 100 metre sprint of the footy codes at Sydney Olympic Park last night.

Test winger Turner ran 11.10 seconds to just hold out his Eastwood rugby clubmate John Grant in 11.15 and Parramatta's rugby league superstar fullback Jarryd Hayne in 11.20 in a thrilling three-man battle for the $NZ 25,600 first prize.

It was an exciting end to a day which was earlier crowded by controversy when the two AFL aussie rules representatives, Carlton's Kade Simpson and Essendon's Courtenay Dempsey, were withdrawn from the event for contractual reasons.

With the AFL sponsored by a rival drinks company to Gatorade, the two midfielders were unable to compete in the eight-man event.

Three more rugby league players, the Bulldogs duo of Josh Morris (11.44) and Ben Barba (11.45s) and Cronulla's Nathan Gardner (11.77s) finished fourth to sixth respectively, followed by Central Coast Mariners football player Matt Lewis (11.99s), with Melbourne's league superstar Greg Inglis (12.48s) finishing eighth and last.
