Tony Williams dropped from Kiwis train-on squad

The New Zealand Rugby League has confirmed the Manly winger Tony Williams has been removed from the Kiwi train-on squad named last week to prepare for the upcoming Four Nations tournament.

The New Zealand selectors had included the former Tonga international in their original 43-man squad, subject to confirming his eligibility with the Rugby League International Federation.

The NZRL chief executive Jim Doyle says Williams told Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney he wanted to play for New Zealand.

But they've now discovered Williams has told Tonga and Australia he also wants to play for them.

Doyle says the Kiwis are only interested in players who have a passion to represent New Zealand, and have subsequently taken Williams out of their train-on squad.

The Kiwis will play Samoa in Auckland next month before the start of the Four Nations tournament.
