Sheens will wait on injuries to players

6:13 am on 17 September 2010

The Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens will give several key players until just before kickoff to prove their fitness before finalising his line-up for tonight's National Rugby League semi-final against Canberra.

The Tigers' Kiwi five-eighth Benji Marshall has been struggling with a knee injury but trained with the team in Canberra yesterday and may take the field against the Raiders.

Blake Ayshford and Chris Lawrence are not expected to play, but Sheens says he'll leave his final selections until the last possible moment.

On the subject of Marshall, Sheens indicated the Tigers' chief creative influence would have every opportunity to press his claims.

He says every coach would give every senior player, let alone a key player, as much time as possible... and he's keeping an open mind about it.

The winner of the match goes on to play St george Illawarra.

Tomorrow the Roosters play Penrith.
