A Benji Marshall-inspired Wests Tigers benefited from a stunning Jarrod Croker missed penalty to advance to within one win of the NRL rugby league grand final with a pulsating 26-24 semi-final win over the Raiders in Canberra last night.
In doubt all week with a knee injury Marshall was brilliant with a leading hand in three of his side's four tries to set up a preliminary final against St George on Saturday week.
But as good as Marshall and the Tigers were, they were forced to rely on Croker missing what he would normally make when the young centre pushed his penalty attempt wide from 30 metres out with four minutes remaining.
After last week's heart-break Marshall says the Tigers were desperate to avoid de ja vu.
The Roosters play the Panthers in Sydney tonight for a place in the second preliminary final against the Titans.
