West Ham secure first point of season

The bottom-placed English Premier League football side West Ham, secured their first point of the season with a hard-fought 1-all draw at Stoke.

West Ham went into half-time leading 1-nil after their midfielder, Scott Parker, put the visitors into the lead with a powerful strike, but Stoke's striker, Kenwyne Jones, levelled for the home side early in the second half.

The result failed to lift West Ham from the foot of the table, who have just one win from five matches, but Stoke climbed out of the bottom three, leapfrogging Wigan and West Bromwich Albion on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur managed to back up their mid-week Champions League draw with a 3-1 win against Wolves, and move into the top four of the Premier League.

Spurs fought back from a goal down at White Hart Lane to bag all three points, after scoring three goals in the final 13 minutes.

Newcastle bounced back from last week's home defeat to defeat Everton 1-nil at Goodison Park, while Aston Villa were held to a 1-all draw at home to Bolton.

Blackburn went 1-nil up in their match with Fulham, after the Fulham keeper, Mark Schwarzer, was bundled over by Rovers striker El Hadji Diouf, allowing Chris Samba to easily head in a goal.

But Fulham equalised through midfielder Clint Dempsey, and secured a draw.
