New Zealand lose Davis Cup doubles

The New Zealand men's doubles tennis team has lost its Asia-Oceania Group Two Davis Cup final to Thailand, in five sets in Bangkok.

Dan King-Turner and Michael Venus took the first set 6-love, and won the tie break in the second, but the Thai twins Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana, fought back to win the final three sets and take the match love-6 6-7 6-0 6-3 6-4.

The Thailand pairing are currently ranked 92 in the world for doubles, compared to King-Turner's doubles ranking of 441 and Venus's 529.

New Zealand currently lead Thailand 2-1in the Davis Cup tie after winning the first two singles matches, and need to win at least one of the two singles matches tonight to be promoted to Asia-Oceania Group One next year.

Venus will play Kittiphong Wachiramanowong, while fellow New Zealander, Rubin Statham, will face Weerapat Doakmaiklee.
