Leceister Tigers on Ali Williams alert

3:23 pm on 25 September 2010

The English premiership side Leicester is on the alert after the New Zealand rugby union said it was considering a short term contract in Europe for the All Black lock Ali Williams.

The 29-year-old's out of his moon boot and has resumed running after rupturing his Achilles tendon at the start of the season.

He's a few weeks away from resuming training and wants to play as soon as possible to start building match fitness before the Super 15 and the World Cup.

Leicester, who signed the former Hurricanes and Crusaders number eight Thomas Waldrom this year, could help provide the time Williams needs as the Tigers have three locks on their casualty list.
