Boxers taking positives from Games go-slow

The uncertainty over the Commonwealth Games hasn't affected New Zealand's boxing team.

In fact the two-day delay in travelling to India suits the six-man team just fine.

The national amateur championship finals took place in Christchurch over the weekend with five of the six senior deciders featuring Games-bound boxers.

Only the welterweight final didn't have a national representative in action while Super Heavyweight medal prospect Joseph Parker's took his title home unopposed.

Coach Billy Meehan says they've kept a positive approach and just left any uncertainty out of the equation to concentrate on the job in hand, which is winning medals.

Meehan's himself a former featherweight champion who shares the record of seven straight national titles.
