Roulston suspects more NZ athletes will withdraw

The Olympic track cycling medalist Hayden Roulston says more athletes may join Greg Henderson in withdrawing from the Commonwealth Games.

Henderson was to compete in the road race in Delhi but withdrew on Friday amid safety and security concerns in Delhi.

Roulston says the in-form Henderson was one of the favourites after a strong third in the Tour of Britain and is a huge loss - but his decision is understandable.

He says there are a lot of athletes who could follow Henderson, which is a real shame as they should have to think only about their performances and not their health and safety.

Roulston's at home in Christchurch preparing for the World Championships in Melbourne next weekend, where he'll be riding with Henderson and Julian Dean, who wasn't available for the Games.
