Foreign players approved for NZ Super franchises

7:00 pm on 24 September 2010

New Zealand's five Super Rugby Franchises will be able to contract up to two foreign players, under a new policy approved by the New Zealand Rugby Union.

Chief Executive Steve Tew describes it as a logical move but it comes with restrictions.

That means no more than one foreign player in a specialist position such as tighthead prop or first five can play in the competition.

Pacific Island players are not ruled as foreigh players.
