A New Zealand yachtsman has set a world record in solo sailing, completing the Northwest Passage across the top of Canada and Alaska in 12 days.

Graeme Kendall entered Lancaster Sound on August 27th and exited Barrow Point on September 9th non-stop with regional authorities estimating his time could also be the fastest ever recorded overall.

This world first is considered by some to be the 'Everest' of sailing and was one of the last major world sailing records to be tackled.
