Springbok coach lives to fight another day

The South African rugby coach Peter De Villiers has survived the Springboks' worst season in years and looks set to guide the team at next year's world cup in New Zealand.

Speculation was rife that De Villiers would be axed but he emerged unscathed from the South African Rugby Union's review of the international season with the Springboks coaching panel left intact for the end of year tour.

The Springboks won just one match and finished last in this year's Tri-Nations.

Given the results and a series of controversial comments made by De Villiers during the campaign, many were baying for blood and praying South Africa dumped the outspoken coach while there was still time ahead of the World Cup.

The Springboks' next international is against Ireland in Dublin on November the 6th.
