Bauer's last-minute arrival unlikely to unsettle

The national road cycling champion, Jack Bauer, is expected to be uneffected by his last minute travel over the past few days, following his late inclusion in New Zealand's World Champs squad.

Bauer only arrived in Australia from the UK yesterday as a late replacement for Jeremy Vennell, who had to withdraw from the Championships in Geelong due to illness.

The Bike NZ high performance manager, Mark Elliot, says the last minute travel is unlikely to unsettle him, and his shorter trip to Australia could even play in his favour.

Elliot says Bauer will have plenty of time to adjust to the change in time zone when he travels to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games.

The 38-year-old cycling veteran, Gordon McCauley, will also be competing in the time trial.

Yesterday Linda Villumsen finished third in the women's time trial, to claim New Zealand's first ever elite medal at the championship.
