The Swiss cycling star Fabian Cancellara became the first man to win four world time trial titles with a convincing victory in Melbourne.
Cancellara, nicknamed Spartacus, is the biggest name at the world titles in Geelong and he lived up to his billing with a brilliant ride in the tough two-lap, 46km time trial.
Cancellara won in 58 minutes and nine seconds and was the only rider to average more than 47km/h.
Cancellara was more than a minute ahead of British rider David Millar, who had his best result at the world titles since his 2004 doping suspension, while German Tony Martin was third despite a flat tyre.
New Zealander Jack Bauer was 23rd, while Gordon McCauley finished 39th after dropping a chain.
