Auckland teenage golfer Cecilia Cho leads the field - both male and female - after the first round of the Port Taranaki Open in New Plymouth.

After Thursday's round was abandoned with wet weather, the 15-year-old fired a five-under par 67 in more friendly conditions to lead all scorers at the $40,000 Charles Tour event at the New Plymouth Golf Club.

The two-time New Zealand Amateur champion fired six birdies to lead by nine shots over her nearest female rival, Caroline Bon, while Cho leads local amateur and leading men's competitor Aarun Langton from Opunake by a stroke.
