The New Zealand tennis player Ellen Barry hopes the Delhi Commonwealth Games isn't her last chance to compete at the event.

Barry's become the second New Zealander to pull out of the Games with safety and health concerns, after the cyclist Greg Henderson withdrew last week.

Barry says it wasn't a decision she made lightly, and her concerns had been growing in recent weeks after continuous media reports.

She says it was difficult to give up the event, with it being her first Commonwealth Games, but hopes she will get the chance again.

She says she's also disappointed she won't be able to play with Marina Erakovic in the doubles event.

Erakovic will now play mixed doubles with New Zealand's Rubin Statham, whose partner Marcus Daniell has had to withdraw from the Games because of a back injury.

Daniell is the third New Zealand athlete to pull out of the Games.

Cyclist Greg Henderson pulled out last week, saying there were too many risks involved in going.
