The Dally M medallist Todd Carney will be Australia's back-up halfback for the Four Nations rugby league tournament beginning later this month after Gold Coast captain Scott Prince was overlooked.
The Sydney Roosters five-eighth will have to prove his fitness however after suffering a knee injury in Sunday night's grand final loss to St George Illawarra.
Prince has been left out of the 24-strong squad, for tests against New Zealand, Great Britain and Papua New Guinea even though regular halfback Johnathan Thurston is also out through injury.
Captain Darren Lockyer, incumbent halfback Cooper Cronk and Newcastle utility Kurt Gidley are the other halves available to coach Tim Sheens.
The Kangaroos play the Kiwis in Auckland on November 6th.
