Good first day for NZ men's archey team

6:29 am on 5 October 2010

New Zealand's men's archery team has had a good first day at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Steve Clifton, Shaun Teasdale and Tony Waddick scored consistently well in the 72-shot round, their combined scores leaving them third and in a good position for the rest of the week.

Clifton shot 702 out of a possible 720, the day's third best individual total, while Teasdale was below his best, but still managed 699, and Waddick shot 694, a 13-point personal best.

The points count towards both the individual and teams events.

The New Zealand women didn't find their best form though.

Stephanie Croskery's 679 was the 12th highest score, while Mandy McGregor's 671 and Anne Mitchell's 655 left them further down the field.
