Nigeria suspended by FIFA

6:29 am on 5 October 2010

FIFA has suspended Nigeria from all international football because of government interference in the running of Nigerian football after the national team's World Cup flop.

The world governing body says the decision follows a bid by the Minister of Sports to restart the national league without relegations, pressure to oust the Nigerian Football Federation's acting general secretary, and court action barring elected members of the federation's executive committee.

The suspension applies to regional, continental and international competitions, including those at club level, and friendly internationals.
