Sydney led 1-0 at halftime but conceded an own goal and Adelaide pinched a winner in stoppage time through substitute and former Sydney Olympic player Iain Ramsay.
With just two points from a run of three straight home games winless Sydney sit 15 points behind Adelaide and six outside the playoff spot.
