Australia's rugby coach coach Robbie Deans has given 12 uncapped players spots in a 40-man squad for the Wallabies' season-ending northern hemisphere tour, including 34-year-old Van Humphries.

The Queensland Reds lock is the oldest in a youthful squad, with 32-year-old Wallaby Nathan Sharpe the only other player above 30.

The other new faces included Reds winger Rod Davies, Australian sevens representative Brackin Karauria-Henry, Western Force hooker Nathan Charles and former Queensland and Western Force second rower Pat O'Connor.

A long injury list left Deans with spots to fill in the squad, which will be trimmed to 36 before the players head to Hong Kong for the final Bledisloe Cup match against New Zealand on October 30.
