First medal for New Zealand in cycling

Cyclist Eddie Dawkins has won New Zealand's first medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, claiming bronze in the mens one kilometre time trial.

Dawkins finished in a time of 1:02.777 minutes, .019 seconds slower than the silver medalist, Mohd Rizal Tisin of Malaysia.

Scott Sunderland of Australia set a new Commonwealth Games record on his way to the gold medal, and finished more than one second faster than Tisin in 1.01.411 minutes.

New Zealand's Myron Simpson, the second rider in the velodrome, surprised everyone with his effort, and finished in fourth place, while Marc Ryan finished in seventh.
