Volleyball has become the latest sport to be affected by claims of match fixing, prompting a revamp of the world championship format.

Match-fixing in sport has been in the spotlight with ongoing police investigations looking into alleged spot-fixing scandals in cricket and rugby league.

There have been accusations that the three group stages in Italy before the semi-finals allowed teams to unfairly plot their route through the competition.

Russia and Brazil are alleged to have deliberately lost games in order to avoid meeting tougher rivals in the next stage of competition.
