Llanelli Scarlets forward Gavin Quinnell, a member of the famous Welsh rugby clan, has permanently lost sight in his left eye following an incident in a match last week.
The 26-year-old Quinnell, the brother of Wales international forwards Scott and Craig Quinnell and the son of ex-Wales and Lions star Derek Quinnell, suffered the injury during a clash with Cross Keys last Saturday.
The club statement aid the matter was now in the hands of police, who are investigating an allegation of assault.
