More medals to come for NZ cyclists

8:35 pm on 8 October 2010

New Zealand is guaranteed at least another two Commonwealth Games medals on the cycling track tonight with Alison Shanks and Jamie Nielsen riding in the women's individual pursuit finals and the men's sprint team competing for gold.

Shanks qualified fastest in the field with a time of 3 minutes 32.114 seconds and looks like New Zealand's best chance of a gold so far lining up against Northern Ireland's Wendy Houvenaghel in the gold medal ride.

Nielsen will race in the bronze medal ride against Canada's Tara Whitten.

The men's sprint team of Eddie Dawkins, Sam Webster and Ethan Mitchell will square off in the gold medal race against Australia after posting the second fastest time in qualifying.

New Zealand is guaranteed at least two silver medals but could come away with two golds and a bronze.
