New Zealand has won it's first gold at the Commonwealth Games with cyclist Alison Shanks beating Northern Ireland's Wendy Houvenaghel in the final of the women's individual pursuit.

Shanks was just a fraction away from equalling the games record for the individual pursuit, winning the gold medal race in 3 minutes 30.875 seconds.

The cycling track has proved by far New Zealand's happiest hunting ground in Delhi and New Zealand is guaranteed at least another silver or gold medal tonight with the men's sprint team lining up against Australia in the final shortly.
