Eden Park officially open for World Cup business

7:59 am on 11 October 2010

Auckland's Eden Park has been officially opened after renovations for next year's Rugby World Cup.

The opening began early Sunday morning with the blessing of four Tekoteko, or carved poles, which guard the park.

Members of the public were allowed in at 10 o'clock with the prime minister, John Key, officially declaring the park open about 11 o'clock.

Many of those at Eden Park were families and children, getting their first look at the redeveloped stadium.

The final and semi-finals of the Cup will be played at Eden Park.
