Gold medal win special for Shanks

New Zealand's first Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Delhi, Alison Shanks, says winning her final was an important achievement, now that the women's individual pursuit has been taken out of the Olympics.

The New Zealanders won five silvers and three bronze medals in track cycling this week, with Shanks the only rider strong enough to beat some dominant Australian and British cyclists.

She says winning gold this year holds extra meaning, with an Olympic individual pursuit medal now not an option.

She says with that change to the Olympic programme, she's put a lot of work into bringing her best to Delhi.
