The Melbourne Heart football team has proved it's a force to be reckoned with, after winning the A-League's first local derby against Melbourne Victory 2-1.

Heart went 1-0 up in the 10th minute when John Aloisi scored with a header.

The two-time champions were constantly under attack, but the veteran Kevin Muscat took a quick free kick for Victory, which allowed Robbie Kruse to net the equaliser in the 37th minute.

But Alex Terra tapped in the first and only goal of the second half for Heart in the 56th minute, in a 45-minute spell which also saw Heart's Aziz Behich red-carded in the 74th minute after a second yellow.

It's Heart's third win in their debut season, and moves them up to 11 points in eighth spot, while Victory drop one place to sixth.
