Another polished performance at second five eighths in Canterbury's successful Ranfurly Shield challenge at Southland on Saturday night has Sonny Bill Williams looking a sure bet to be on the plane with the All Blacks later this month.

The team's announced next Sunday and Williams added another try assist and plenty of other good work in the win.

Growing up in a rugby league family the Old Log was a mystery to the Auckland boy - but now he's won it back with the champions and seen what it means to the hundreds of fans who turned out to welcome the team home, Williams realises how big the Shield is.

Williams says winning the Shield back means a lot for the local community after the earthquake.
