Roulston silver in Delhi road race

The New Zealand cyclist Hayden Roulston shrugged off the effects of the flu to win a silver medal in the 168 kilometre men's road race at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Roulston has previously won two Commonwealth Games and two Olympic cycling medals on the track.

Without a specialist sprinter the six-strong New Zealand team rode a smart race to split the field to try and kill off the sprinters' hopes.

Eventually Australian Allan Davis was the only sprinter left in the leading group and he outkicked Roulston right on the line. Scotland's David Millar was third.

Roulston says he's been in bed the last couple of days with flu symptoms and contemplated not starting.

It's New Zealand's 10th cycling medal of the games.

Earlier Joanne Kiesanowski finished fourth in the women's road race.
