New Zealand has won its second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, with shot putter Valerie Adams defending her title with a new Games record of 20.47 metres.

Adams clinched gold with her first throw of the evening, and followed it up with five other throws of over 20 metres.

Adams was clearly in a class of her own - Cleopatra Brown of Trinidad and Tobago won silver with a throw of 19.03 metres, and Samoa's Tasele Satupai was well off the pace in third, with 16.43 metres.
