Breakers confirm Penney's release from Spurs

The New Zealand Breakers basketball team have confirmed that shooting guard Kirk Penney has been released from the San Antonio Spurs veterans camp and has for now not secured a contract to play in the NBA.

Breakers club owners spoke with the 2009 ANBL MVP today and were given the news by an obviously upset Penney who played one pre-season game for the Spurs, not doing enough to secure a contract.

The Breakers General Manager Richard Clarke says the club feels for Penney but has not put a timeline on his return.

He says the ANBL club will give Penney time to check any other NBA offers that might emerge on the back of his time at the Spurs.

Clarke says he hopes to confirm Penney's availability over the next few days and hopes the Tall Black will return in time for the Breakers first home game next Wednesday.
