Opening batsman Nic Maddinson has claimed a 95-year-old cricketing record, becoming the youngest ever player to make a century for New South Wales on debut.
With the Blues batting on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval, the 18-year-old left-hander's 113 eclipsed the record held by little known Norman Callaway.
Maddinson's almost a month younger than Callaway was when he hit 207 against Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1915.
It was Callaway's only first-class match and he was killed in France in World War One.
Maddinson is also younger than the great Arthur Morris, who hit 148 on debut for NSW in 1940.
