New Zealand through to sevens semis

6:51 pm on 12 October 2010

The New Zealand rugby sevens team has booked a place in tonight's Commonwealth Games semi-finals after defeating Wales 31-10 in Delhi.

After a slow start, Wales scored first in the corner, but missed the conversion.

New Zealand's Kurt Baker crossed the line with one minute left in the first half, and an easy conversion had the favourites take a slim 7-5 lead into the break.

But it was a different side that came out in the second half, with the New Zealanders scoring in the first minute back on the park.

Another three tries for New Zealand before the final whistle gave the men in black a 31-10 victory, and keeps their quest for a fourth straight Games gold medal alive.

New Zealand will play England for a place in the final, after they beat Samoa 7-5 in a scrappy quarter-final.

The semi is due to kick-off at about 10pm.
