The New Zealand javelin thrower Stuart Farquhar has revealed a heel injury over the last month did affect him at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Farquhar threw more than seven metres below his best, but was still good enough to pick up the silver medal.

Farquhar won't blame the injury for not winning gold, but says it did affect his run-up and therefore his throwing technique..

However he says although he struggled at least he managed one good through to get into the silver medal position and stay there.

New Zealand finished the athletics programme with eight medals after Nick Willis's bronze in the 1500 metres,.

Most of the athletes will now prepare for next year's World Championships in Korea.
