Offshore search for new canoe coach

7:44 am on 14 October 2010

Canoe Racing New Zealand's on the hunt for a new national coach and is looking offshore after seeing off Ian Ferguson, Paul MacDonald and Andras Szabo.

The trio are no longer required after a review conducted by Sport and Recreation New Zealand, following disagreements between them and Canoe Racing New Zealand.

CRNZ's appointed an interim national coach, Gordon Walker, and is in discussions with another un-named local coach over a short-term position as the sport starts its hunt for the what its CEO Paula Kearns calls the best coaching expertise that they can for their athletes.

Kearns says they hope to have a new coach in place by early next year.
