Wayne Rooney has confirmed he wants to leave Manchester United because the club can no longer attract top players.
The 24 year old superstar has broken his silence in a statement in which he claims his move is not motivated by money.
Rooney says he and his agent have had a number of meetings with the club about a new contract, but they weren't able to satisfy his concerns about the future squad.
Rooney also refuted suggestions by manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he'd failed to show the club "respect" by his conduct since making his decision to quit.
He also said he owed his boss a huge debt as mentor since he joined Manchester United as an 18 year old, describing him as a genius.
