Canterbury will host Wellington and Auckland will square off against Waikato in next weekend's ITM Cup rugby semi-finals after Auckland sealed their place in the top four and a home semi with a 49-10 win over Tasman at Eden Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Cantabs finish top of the table and play fourth-placed Wellington after Auckland's bonus point win pushed the Lions down the ladder and Taranaki out of the final four.
At the other end of the table, Otago have taken out the wooden spoon after losing to visitors Manawatu 46-24 - the first time Otago have finished bottom in 31 years.
Hawkes Bay beat Counties-Manukau 31-28 in a last minute thriller in Pukekohe to claim eighth place in the ITM Cup. If that result had played out under next year's Premiership/Championship rules, the Magpies would have been promoted while Otago would face the drop.
