Man United move on from Rooney saga to beat Stoke

12:02 pm on 25 October 2010

After a week when England striker Wayne Rooney hogged the headlines, his Mexican stand-in Javier Hernandez scored twice to secure the Manchester United football club's first away win in Premier League this season when they triumphed 2-1 at Stoke City.

Rooney, whose stated desire to leave Old Trafford was followed by an immediate u-turn and a five-year contract, missed the game with an ankle injury but for the second week running his replacement Hernandez opened the scoring.

Tuncay Sanli cancelled out Hernadez's opener in the 81st minute only for the Mexican to snatch the winner four minutes from time.

It took United's points tally to 17, level with second-placed Manchester City and Arsenal, after the Gunners beat a 10-man City at Eastlands, and five behind leaders Chelsea who beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-nil on Sunday.
