Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi and Force India's Adrian Sutil were handed five-place penalties on the starting grid for the next Brazilian Grand Prix for causing avoidable collisions.

The German Sutil was also fined $US10,000 by stewards for colliding with Kamui Kobayashi because he was aware of brake problems with his car throughout the inaugural South Korean Grand Prix.

Swiss Buemi was penalised for a collision with Timo Glock's Virgin Racing car while the German was in 12th place but yet to pit.

Force India are sixth in the championship, three points ahead of Williams with two races left.

Toro Rosso are ninth.
