The Tall Blacks basketballer Kirk Penney says he has no regrets about his latest stint in the United States despite failing to break into the NBA.

Penney, who's 29, is back with the New Zealand Breakers after tyring to add to brief stints in the NBA four years ago having appeared in six games for both the Miami Heat and the L.A. Clippers.

He attended a camp with San Antonio Spurs but wasn't picked up by the club and when no other club showed interest he decided to return home.

Penney, was offered the trial with the Spurs after finishing among the leading scorers at the world champs earlier this year.

He says he knew there were no guarantee of earning an NBA contract but he had to try his luck otherwise he would have been left wondering.
