Race for golf's world number one heats up in Spain

8:23 am on 28 October 2010

The race to be crowned the new world number one is the focus of the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama in Spain this week with Germany's Martin Kaymer and England's Lee Westwood both fighting for the right to be called the best golfer in the world.

If the PGA Championship winner Kaymer were to win or come second in Spain, he would replace Tiger Woods at the top of the golfing echelon, but any weaker finish and Westwood will claim the title of world number one.

Kaymer says he's trying to stay focused on the task at hand and put the thought of usurping Woods from his mind.

The Andalucia Masters tees off in Spain later tonight.
