The young New Zealand hockey striker Nick Wilson has been named as one of the finalists for World Hockey's Young Men's Player of the Year award.

20-year-old Wilson has been a key member of the Black Sticks team this year that attended the Champions Trophy, World Cup and also won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The shortlist for the Men's Player of the Year Award contains two of the greatest hockey players of their generation, brilliant Dutch attacker Teun de Nooijer and World Cup-winning Australian Jamie Dwyer, with both men aiming to win the coveted award for a what would be a record fourth time.

Following Argentinean triumphs at the Champions Trophy and World Cup, Argentina has two women's finalists, Luciana Aymar and Soledad Garcia.

Aymar has won the award six times before.
