Canterbury into ITM Cup final after try-fest in Christchurch

Canterbury have kept alive hopes of a third successive national provincial championship rugby title next weekend after they outgunned Wellington 57-41 in a frenetic ITM Cup semi-final in Christchurch.

A massive 60 points were scored in the first half, 34 to Canterbury and 26 to Wellington, as both teams unleashed their potent attacking weapons, however some weak defence helped contribute to the inflated scoreline.

The red and blacks outscored Wellington six tries to four and deserved the win after a flawless kicking display from first five Colin Slade.

Canterbury, who beat Wellington in the last two NPC finals and have become the Lions perennial bogey team in the playoffs, will face the winner of the Auckland-Waikato semi-final at Eden Park, in the final in Christchurch next weekend.
