Waikato coach comes to Donald's aid

6:42 pm on 3 November 2010

The Waikato coach Chris Gibbes has come to the defence of much maligned All Black first Stephen Donald.

The Waikato first-five has been roundly criticised in the wake of the All Blacks loss to Australia in Hong Kong at the weekend.

Donald replaced Carter midway through the second half and promptly missed a penalty then failed to find touch, which led to the Wallabies scoring a try, which was then converted giving them the win and ending a ten test losing run to the All Blacks.

Gibbes says the criticism will hurt Donald and while he believes much of it was unjustified Gibbes believes Donald will bounce back from it.

The All Blacks play England in London this weekend.
