More medals on the water but no gold

Three more medals for New Zealand at the World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro, but no sign of a gold.

The lightweight men's pair James Lassche and Graham Oberlin-Brown took the silver after finishing second in their final, overhauled by the French world champions. Canada were third.

The lightweight double scullers Peter Taylor and Storm Uru couldn't defend their title, finishing third for bronze behind Great Britain and Italy in their final.

Disappointment too for the men's four of David Eade, Jade Uru, Hamish Burson and Simon Watson, having to settle for the bronze behind France and Greece in a very tight finish.

Duncan Grant struggled with the choppy conditions in his lightweight single sculls semi-final, finishing fourth and missing out on the 'A' final. Grant, the world champion going into the race, was beaten by Denmark, Slovakia and Italy.

The lightweight women's double scullers Julia Edward and Lucy Strack were last in their final and the women's four and women's quad also missed out, both finishing last in their final.

New Zealand double scull medal hopes Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan won their semi-final by a boat length over Australia and France.
