5:30 am on 6 November 2010

The New Zealand cricketers are 69 for 2 in reply to India's first innings of 487 after 2 days of the opening test in Ahmedabad.

The spinners Dan Vettori and Jeetan Patel took 7 wickets between them as India lost their last 7 wickets for 158 runs.

Tailender Harbhajan Singh struck a career-best 69 as India fell to 412 for 8 at one stage.

In reply Tim McIntosh made a duck and BJ Whatling 6, while Brendan McCullum is on 38 and Ross Taylor 18.

Jeetan Patel says he's delighted to have taken the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar for 40, saying its the biggest scalp of his career.

Patel, who finished with 3 for 135 says he probably tried too hard on the first day and was bowling a little fast.

New Zealand were hit by a groin injury to rookie paceman Hamish Bennett, who did bowl on the second day.
