Black Caps in sight of rare victory over India

8:38 am on 8 November 2010

The Black Caps would have gone to bed last night in Ahmedabad dreaming of a rare test win on the sub-continent after an inspired spell of pace bowling by veteran Chris Martin changed the course of the first test against the world's top test playing nation.

New Zealand lost their last five wickets cheaply to trail India by 28 runs on the first innings, but an early run out, and four wickets from Martin reduced India to 15 for 5 in their second innings, before they recovered to end the day on 82 for 6, Martin ending the day with 5 for 25 from 13 overs.

Pace bowler Hamish Bennett is injured, and he was substituted in the field by Martin Guptil, and Jesse Ryder is still nursing a calf muscle injury, further undermining the Black Caps bowling stocks for the final day.

India lead overall by 110 runs.
