The Wellington allrounder James Franklin will join the New Zealand cricketers tomorrow for the rest of the Test series in India.
Franklin replaces pace bowler Hamish Bennett who injured his groin while bowling on day one of the drawn Test match against India in Ahmedabad.
Because of the short turn around between games it's been decided it's in Bennett's best interests to return to New Zealand for further testing and rehabilitation.
The Blackcaps coach Mark Greatbatch says Franklin showed good form with bat and ball in Zimbabwe where he led New Zealand A to a series win.
Greatbatch says the selectors also decided to go with an all-rounder because of concerns about Jesse Ryder's ability to bowl in the second test, which starts on Friday.
